When I take, I must also give.
We import our coffee beans directly from the indigenous communities of the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta – from the sacred place of Nabusimake, which in the Iku language means “the place where the sun was born”. For centuries the Arhuacos were driven from their land. We want them to be able to return to it: in 2020, proceeds from our sales helped buy back 20 hectares of land in the Birwa area, where the community now grows its own coffee, avocados and bananas – without fear of being displaced again.
We have no wish to create a living museum. We want the Arhuaco tribe to look after its own land and future itself.
