How does it taste?
Dark chocolate, dried apricots and a gentle caramel finish. The medium-light roast lets the beans’ natural sweetness shine — this coffee is superb on its own or with milk, and suits filter, French press and moka pot alike.
What makes it different?
The cherries are picked by hand by the family of grower Jaider Izquierdo, just once a year and only when perfectly ripe — from the first seed to the roast, entirely without chemicals. To the Arhuacos, everything is alive and deserves respect: every ant, the water, every stone and leaf. That is why each harvest opens with a traditional ritual.
The story in a nutshell
After the Spanish arrived, the Arhuacos had to abandon their homes and spent four centuries quietly surviving in the cold mountains of the Sierra Nevada. Today they are returning to the land of their ancestors — and this coffee is helping them do it. We are not middlemen: the growers’ families are our direct trading partners, and every pack sold contributes to buying their land back. Read the full story below ↓

Behind every bag stands the Arhuaco people
We import our coffee beans directly from the indigenous communities of the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta – from the sacred place of Nabusimake, which in the Iku language means “the place where the sun was born”. For centuries the Arhuacos were driven from their land. We want them to be able to return to it: in 2020, proceeds from our sales helped buy back 20 hectares of land in the Birwa area, where the community now grows its own coffee, avocados and bananas – without fear of being displaced again.
We have no wish to create a living museum. We want the Arhuaco tribe to look after its own land and future itself.
Ywawika — the Heart of the World
The Arhuacos call the mountains of the Sierra Nevada Ywawika — the Heart of the World. For hundreds of years they have lived in perfect harmony with nature, and their mission is to care for this heart. Every cup of Café Arhuacos helps them carry on.
Why our coffee makes sense
Organic certificate
The beans are 100% organic, harvested once a year with the utmost respect for nature – no chemicals, no artificial sprays.
Direct trade, no middlemen
We import the coffee directly from grower families in the Sierra Nevada, like Jaider Izquierdo – no middlemen, no wholesale warehouses.
Coffee that returns the land
Part of the proceeds from every pack sold goes towards buying back ancestral land in the Sierra Nevada — so the tribe can farm it on its own.
How to brew it at home
A medium-light roast that works with all three methods — just get the grind and ratio right.
Frequently asked questions
Which grind size should I choose?
Our 100% Arabica Typica works for filter coffee (medium grind), french press (coarser grind) and moka pot (finer grind). Always grind the beans fresh, right before brewing.
What does Arhuacos coffee taste like?
Expect a pronounced cup of dark chocolate, dried apricot and caramel – excellent on its own and with milk.
How should I store the coffee?
Keep the beans in an airtight container in a dry, dark place, away from direct sunlight and moisture. They hold their best flavour for a few weeks after the bag is opened.
Where exactly does the coffee come from, and who harvests it?
The coffee comes from the sacred site of Nabusimake in the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta mountains of Colombia. It is harvested under organic certification by the family of Jaider Izquierdo, a local grower and teacher.
Is the coffee certified organic or fair trade?
The beans are certified organic (organic origin, no chemicals). This is not a coffee with official Fairtrade International certification – our model is direct purchasing from growers with no middlemen, arranged by the Arhuacos Endowment Fund.
Where does the money from each bag go?
We buy the coffee directly from grower families at fair prices, and part of the proceeds goes towards buying back ancestral land in the Sierra Nevada. In 2020 the Arhuaco community recovered 20 hectares of land in the Birwa area this way.
How long does delivery take?
We dispatch from the Czech Republic within 1–2 business days of order confirmation; delivery within the EU usually takes a few more working days depending on the destination.
How does the subscription work?
You pick a delivery every 2 or 4 weeks and keep a permanent 15% discount — the option sits right next to the “Add to cart” button. We ship the coffee automatically, always freshly roasted. You can skip a delivery or cancel the subscription any time in your account — no commitment.
